Meet Judge Amy Lannerd

"I promise to keep my oath to uphold the Constitution of the State of Illinois and the Constitution of the United States of America." - Justice Amy Lannerd

In 2022, Supreme Court Justice Lisa Holder White and her colleagues on the Illinois Supreme Court assigned Judge Amy Lannerd to the Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court.  Currently, along with her colleagues on the court, her responsibilities include hearing appeals from the 41 counties of the Fourth Judicial District.

Justice Lannerd has over 21 years of combined experience as a judge and a lawyer. Prior to her assignment to the Appellate Court, Justice Lannerd  served as a circuit judge for the 8th Judicial Circuit of Illinois.  Then Supreme Court Chief Justice Rita B. Garman (ret.) and her colleagues on the Illinois Supreme Court unanimously appointed Lannerd as a Circuit Judge.  Chief Justice Garman's (ret.) screening committee found her "exceptionally well qualified for the position."  Judge Lannerd was later elected to that position.  She has presided over criminal and civil cases as well as jury trials.  Judge Lannerd's trial court assignments have included a felony docket since 2018.  Her responsibilities also included serving as the alternate judge for the Mental Health and Drug Courts programs.

During her time on the bench, Judge Lannerd was selected to serve on the Supreme Court's Pretrial Implementation Task Force Communications Subcommittee. On multiple occasions, Judge Lannerd has been a faculty member at the Judicial Education Conference, the mandatory biennial continuing education program for all Illinois judges. In addition, she has served as course supervisor and civil tract workgroup member for the educational conference.

Prior to taking the bench, Justice Lannerd  began her legal career as a general practitioner and later became a partner in the law firm of Lewis, Longlett & Lannerd, LLC. In 2008, she was approved as a family and divorce mediator. She has presented at Illinois State Bar Association continuing legal education courses and has been a guest lecturer at Quincy University.

She was born in Quincy, Illinois, and grew up on a farm near Liberty, Illinois. Justice Lannerd has always remained involved in her community.  She has often returned to Liberty to speak with FFA classes. She has held leadership roles in Quincy Rotary-East, Quincy Service League, Great River Economic Development Foundation (GREDF), and Christ Lutheran Church.  She continues to serve on her church council.

Judge Lannerd is a member of the Illinois Judges Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Central Illinois Women's Bar Association and Adams County Bar Association.

She and her husband live in Quincy, Illinois.   Together, they have five children and two dogs.
